This Garmin may look a little bulky in the photos, but its durability and features outweigh any extra ounces. The information that the Garmin gives me is priceless in my first-time marathon training. I don’t run too far, wearing myself down unnecessarily and not following my training plan, because of this gadget (I run straight out the front door of my apartment, through my neighborhood.) It is also a great tool for measuring my progress, heart-rate wise. I haven’t gotten into the “Pace buddy” feature yet. I think the only downside is the inability for the Garmin to give alerts for short times and distances for, say, running 400 meters, resting a pre-determined time, then running another 400 meters, etc. (I know this type of training has a name, but I can’t think of it off the top of my head.) I am so pleased with this product. I have been running for eight years and I feel like this Garmin will enable me to take my running to a new committment level. (And it makes my runs exceptionally fun!)

Bought 3 of these for my bikes to mount my Garmin Forerunner 305. Each comes with mount and 4 zip ties. It worked on my bikes with round handlebars but wasn’t compatible with my FSA K-Wing handlebar, which was flat at the mount point. Amazon has the lowest price but $10 for a piece of plastic and some ties is kind of expensive.

I have these mounted on three bikes so that I can move my Garmin 305 between the bikes. Works great and mounts easily.

Stop- This item is a replacement for the quick release bike mounting kit. It does NOT include the new wrist band for the watch. If you want full quick release capabilities you need to buy the KIT, not the replacement bracket. Spend the extra $10,,,it’s worth it

I’m only writing this review because Amazon asked. The bike mount works fine. I haven’t had any problems with it. I use it on a mountain bike where it gets lots of abuse. It has never lost the Forerunner except when I have hit it with my body in a fall. I can’t blame that on the mount – I shouldn’t be hitting it.

Works well for what it is however, there is a catch… You have to take the band off the watch to clip it in. Like another reviewer stated (wish I would have listed) its actually easier to find a big piece of foam to cut to size and wrap around your handlebar. This is what I ended up doing and its working great.

I can’t believe I waited so long to purchase one. The only shortfall from perfection is that setup and options are not very intuitive, and that’s coming from someone who’s pretty good at figuring out computerized gadgets without a manual. The user’s manual isn’t very intuitive either but I found some online video tutorials at [...] that helped alot. The complexity of the watch is understandable once you realize all the things it can do. It’s great!

I am new to running and have used the Garmin 205 for a couple of months. It has so many great features for new or experienced runners. It is BETTER than advertised. It has so many features for you to use, depending on what kind of training you want to do. I especially like to run against the “virtual partner”, because it keeps me at the pace that I want to run at. It also tells me my pace and how far I have run. I can’t say enough about the Garmin 205, it is fantastic!

I had high hopes for this thing. I have had it for a few months, but have found the satellite acquisition time just unacceptable. Once you get a lock, it’s great–if you can get a lock within 15-20 minutes. (I give this two stars because it DOES work, but it takes way too long. You can’t add 20 minutes to your workout just to wait around outside.) I tried it in two cities: Cambridge, MA and Washington, DC. I really, really wanted to like it because it’s more accurate than the Nike+ Sportband I was running with. I hated standing around outside like a fool for 20 minutes waiting, seeing the “Locating Satellites” progress bar reach the top, only to fail, and have to start over. I tried all the troubleshooting, updating firmware, whatever, but it didn’t work. In Cambridge, I am in an area with low buildings and little interference, but the signal drops out! I can get a signal by the River, by it’s aggravating to have to wait. Garmin Connect is a great online tool, however, and you do get a good sense of satisfaction and awareness through seeing your metrics. If this product were less expensive, I might not be as mad, but I really expected more from Garmin. I also find it questionable to put the contacts for the uploading cradle on the BACK of the watch where you sweat onto it. Really, Garmin?

I wound up getting the Garmin FR60 with footpod, eventually, and that one seems to be a lot less hassle, and seems very accurate (I run routes that I pre-map on Googlemaps to check). I will write a review for that one after a couple of weeks.

The watch does what was expected. It does sometimes take awhile to locate the GPS signal and sometimes loose’s it in tree’s or bridges.

    I love the forerunner 205!
    Pros:
    1) satellite location took only 45 seconds on a rainy day
    2) set up was easy
    3) accurate pace, time and distance readings (better than google maps pedometer and a watch).
i initially thought my walking the dog pace was 20 – 24 min / mile, but i averaged 17 min / mile! greatly increasing my caloric burn!

have not tried the mapping yet, nor the other training / workout features. there were comments on the reviews regarding its size. i am a big man, and it is not as bulky for me. for anyone smaller, i can see why one would be mistaken for Flavor Flav.
Suggestions for use (based on the reviews)
    1) turn the unit off after the training session – makes sense as this is a trainign tool, not a watch
    2) wipe off the unit prior to recharging or syncing with the computer – this again preserves battery power as it is less likely to short the circuits.

I use this primarily for dog walking and doing a feasibility study on doing a half marathon next year.

I purchased this extra charging cradle so that I could have one at both ends of my bicycle commute. Works as advertised as one would expect from such a simple device. Seems a bit pricey. Couldn’t find a third-party version. Must be a Garmin licensing thing.

  • 12 Urbauer

What’s not to like. My old cradle went bad as it would no longer hold my watch correctly. This is a perfect replacement. It either works or not, and this does.

  • 13 Cordero

Got this after needing a secondary one for a different location. It seems to work fine and have had no issues with it so far. It does not come with the USB cable – so if you lost that you will need to purchase that seperately. Other than that it works as described.

  • 14 Cain

It does what it is supposed to do. The price appears to be a bit high though.

  • 15 Fulmer

I would not buy this product again. It does charge my GPS but I have to put a rubber band around it get it to make contact.
